Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff in El Paso
Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with soldiers at Fort Bliss at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
The focus of the forum was to discuss the issues affecting troops and military families. The topics ranged from family support, soldier injuries, the war in Afghanistan, and the violence in Juarez.
The visit was a chance for Master Srgt., Julie Guerra to ask how the United States Army planned to improve family sevices.
“I want to know how they are going to take care of service members and children. When mom and dad go to work, who’s going to take care of the kids?” said Guerra.
Joseph McCage asked the admiral what could be done to stop the violence in Mexico.
“The border issue is a concern,” said Admiral Michael Mullen.” It has to do with inter agency work on both sides [Mexico] . Learning to work together. It won’t change over night.”
Mullen encouaraged the troops to continue to share their experiences with him, in order to improve conditions for the troops.
