Police: Ex-Manager Allegedly Embezzled From Las Cruces Ice Cream Shop

A former district manager for a Las Cruces ice cream shop has been arrested and charged with embezzling nearly $11,000 from her employer, according to Las Cruces Police Dept. officials.

Crystal M. Serna, 23, of the 5900 block of Moon View Drive, is charged with one count of embezzlement. The charge is a third-degree felony.

According to Las Cruces Police, detectives learned that Serna was employed by Caliche’s Frozen Custard and that, between the dates of Aug. 19-29, 2010, she failed to make the daily deposits for the store on Valley Drive . The deposits totaled approximately $10,987.

Serna told detectives that the lost deposits were most likely a bank error, according to police officials. The bank in question, however, had no record of the deposits and Serna was unable to produce any receipts for the transactions she claimed to have made, according to police.

Detectives learned that Serna is no longer employed by Caliche’s.

Serna was arrested on a warrant Monday, March 14, and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash bond set at $10,000.
