Update: Soldier Who Left Hospital Before Exam Has Been Taken Into Custody
Update March 23, 2011 U.S. Army Major Myles Caggins, a spokesman at Fort Bliss, tells ABC-7 that the soldier that walked away from William Beaumont Army Medical Center prior to a medical exam on Tuesday afternoon was taken into custody Wednesday morning in East El Paso.
Caggins said Fort Bliss Law Enforcement officials apprehended the soldier without incident, adding he will likely face charges, although what those charges will be he couldn’t say.
Previous Story March 22, 2011 El Paso Police and Fort Bliss authorities are searching for a patient from William Beaumont Army Medical Center who left his chain of command’s custody, according to El Paso Police officials.
Police joined the search at around 2:25 p.m. The subject was being escorted and decided to walk away, according to police. Officers had information he was in the area of McKelligon Canyon and Alabama and began a systematic search of the apartment complex located at McKelligon Canyon at Alabama. While officers were there, SWAT team members were training nearby and responded to assist patrol with a search of the complex. Officers completed a search and found nothing. Officers are still in the area looking for the man. He is described as a white male, 6-feet tall and wearing soldier fatigues.
