Duo Found Guilty in Horizon City Kidnapping Case
Two men accused of kidnapping a Horizon City man were found guilty on all counts late Friday afternoon.
Cesar Obregon and Rafael Vega were accused of kidnapping Sergio Saucedo from his home back in 2009. Saucedo later turned up dead on a street in Juarez, with both his hands cut off.
Relatives testified that Saucedo was a drug smuggler who allegedly lost a load of marijuana, which is why investigators say he was kidnapped and killed.
During the course of the trial, details of Saucedo’s kidnapping emerged, including the facts that he was taken from inside his Horizon City home, while his children were in a bedroom and his wife was duct taped to a chair. According to court testimony, the pair of kidnappers bragged about the kidnapping and the killing at a party a few months later.
The jury deliberated for just over five hours, capping the week-long trial.
This incident was one of the first ‘spillover’ cases of Mexico’s violence in El Paso since the cartel war began.
Both Obregon and Vega will be sentenced in July.
