Small Plane Crashes Near Ruidoso

High winds are being blamed for a small plane crash near Ruidoso.

Sierra Blanca Regional Airport officials said it happened at about 1:20 p.m. Sunday. They explained a twin Comanche plane crashed as it attempted to land within 1,000 feet from the runway.

The pilot and a passenger walked away with no serious injuries, according to airport officials.

New Mexico State Police officials said the high winds may have affected the landing and caused the pilot to try to take off again, instead.

They said it appears the plane wound up running out of runway before it was able to become fully airborne, leading to the crash.
