FBI Agent Impersonator Sentenced To Federal Prison
United States Attorney John E. Murphy announced that in El Paso on Wednesday 34-year-old William Trinity Mendoza, was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for writing a series of bad checks while impersonating an a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.
In addition, United States District Judge Philip Martinez ordered that Mendoza pay $2,417.59 in restitution and be placed under supervised release for a period of one year after completing his prison term.
According to court records, between August 12, 2010 and September 13, 2010, Mendoza wrote a series of fraudulent checks at several businesses in El Paso and Anthony, Texas, for products and services totaling over $2,400. During these transactions, Mendoza, wearing clothing items including a black baseball cap and windbreaker jacket emblazoned with “FBI”, claimed to business employees that he was an FBI agent.
This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the El Paso and Anthony Police Departments. Assistant United States Attorney Laura Franco Gregory prosecuted this case on behalf of the Government.
