Abrams Fire 40 Percent Contained
The Abrams fire just off the base of the Organ Mountains in southern New Mexico is still just 40 percent contained.
The strong winds have helped spread the fire, scorching more than 7,000 acres.
The smoke is clearly visible from Las Cruces and of course, the closer you get to White Sands.
Fire crews hope as the winds die down Wednesday that helicopters can get back above the fire and drop water.
Residents at White Sands Missile Range have been asked to prepare for a possible evacuation.
