Police: Woman Run Over & Killed In Lower Valley

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing North Loop Drive in El Paso’s lower valley around 1 a.m. Sunday morning, according to police.

The victim, 67-year-old Rubilia Marrufo, was struck by a 1999 red Chevrolet Silverado driven by 69-year-old Benjamin Rodriguez when she attempted to cross the 7500 block of North Loop Drive.

According to an investigation by police, Marrufo was attempting to cross at the intersection of Carolina with another man when the traffic signal changed while the pair were in the median. Police said the man waited in the median while Marrufo attempted to run across the east bound lanes against the traffic signal.

Marrufo was taken to Del Sol Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

According to police, speed and alcohol were not factors for the driver of the truck. The investigation is still ongoing.
