Clint High School Students Say Classmate Brought Shotgun To Campus Monday

Clint High School is getting some heat from concerned parents. Students told ABC-7 a classmate brought a shotgun to school on Monday. Now they’re criticizing administrators, saying the school doesn’t do enough to keep kids safe and parents informed.

A spokeswoman for the Clint Independent School District said they could not confirm details, but said an investigation is underway regarding a Monday incident involving a Clint High School student. The spokeswoman added the Clint Police Department and the Clint ISD Security Department are now looking into unspecified allegations regarding that student.

ABC-7 spoke with students at Clint High School on Thursday afternoon. They said they heard a sophomore allegedly had a shotgun in his truck while it was on campus.

“He was in auto shop class and they were working (on his truck),” said one student. “Then the teacher saw the shotgun. (The sophomore) was sent to the office, but the office didn’t do anything.”

The student said administrators sent the sophomore back to class after a while, at which point the sophomore allegedly started bragging about the way the situation was handled.

“He said (the assistant principal) was a bad a** ’cause he didn’t call the cops,” said the student. The student said she heard the sophomore’s parents picked up the shotgun a short while later.

Once word got out of the incident, students say, they questioned why administrators allegedly let the sophomore return to class.

“After everybody started complaining, then they suspended (the sophomore),” said one student. “If he hadn’t opened his mouth, he would’ve gotten away with it and that’s not fair,” said another student.

A spokeswoman with the Clint Independent School District said, “I can assure you that the appropriate action was taken once district administration was notified of the situation.” However, she did not say if or how the student in the investigation has been disciplined.

Bringing a firearm onto a school campus is classified as a Discretionary Expellable Offense in the Clint Independent School District Handbook.
