Man Arrested In Connection To Unsolved January Slaying

The El Paso Police Department announced the arrest of a man investigators believe was behind the shooting death of a teenager in Northeast El Paso four months ago.

Alexander Salas, 21, is facing murder charges in connection to the death of Isaiah Luna, 19, on January 22 of this year. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Luna was sitting in his Chevy Caprice with another person on the 10400 block of Kendall that evening when a car rolled up. Someone in the car pulled out a gun and opened fire on Luna’s car, shooting him in the head. Luna was taken to University Medical Center where he died the next morning.

Luna’s cousins spoke to ABC-7 the day Luna died.

“It’s hard to say that somebody who would text me every day … and say he loved us and he’s always going to be there for us no matter what and be safe, and the one time that something happens it has to be him,” said Tiana Medrano, tears filling her eyes.

“None of us ever thought that that would happen, in a million years,” said Paul Cano.

The EPPD gang unit was investigating the crime. The police spokesman said in a news release sent to the ABC-7 newsroom shortly before midnight Friday that more arrests are expected.
