NMSU Featured Among Top 100 Colleges For Hispanics
New Mexico State University was rated among the top 100 colleges for Hispanic students according to the May 2 issue of Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine.
The rankings show the top 100 institutions for Hispanics based on the number of degrees awarded. The information, made available by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, was compiled and reported by The Hispanic Outlook.
“We owe our success to the faculty and staff who work tirelessly to create an atmosphere of achievement for Hispanic students,” Executive Vice President and Provost Wendy K. Wilkins said. “The efforts of those students are, most particularly, to be recognized and celebrated.”
NMSU ranked 23rd for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics, with 41 percent of degrees awarded going to Hispanics.
NMSU ranked 29th for the number of master’s degrees awarded to Hispanics, with 27 percent of degrees awarded going to Hispanics.
In a separate ranking of the top 10 number of bachelor’s degrees awarded by academic program, NMSU achieved eighth place for “Agriculture” and seventh place for “Education.”
“Earning special recognition in two academic program categories, and being represented on both undergraduate and graduate degree lists, are the kind of stellar achievements we hope to continue working toward at NMSU,” Wilkins said.
