Update: Woman Killed In Lower Valley Crash Identified
Update: The El Paso police have identified the woman killed in a traffic collision on Sunday afternoon as Jenevieve Herrera, 32, of Chamberino, N.M.
According to police, the investigation has shown that Herrera was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu and exiting a private driveway to travel on Alameda. At the same time, a 2004 Ford Ranger, driven by 18-year-old Edward Baeza, of the 10400 block of Valle de Oro, was travelling west on Alameda and collided with the drivers side of the Malibu.
Herrera died at the scene.
Baeza and the passenger in the Ford Ranger, 17-year-old Rogelio Meraz, of the 9800 block of Staubach, were treated at area hospitals with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that the investigation has shown that speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash and no charges have been filed in this case.
This is the 26th traffic-related death of 2011 compared to 27 at this time in 2010.
Previous Story: One woman is dead after a crash in El Paso’s lower valley Sunday afternoon. It happened at about 3 p.m. in the 9800 block of Alameda Avenue.
Police have not identified the woman. They say she was driving a Chevy Malibu when her car and a Ford pick-up truck collided.
“There were two males in the Ford pick-up,” said El Paso Police Department spokesman Mike Baranyay. “They were taken to local hospitals and the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.”
Police said the Ford truck was going west on Alameda as the Chevy drove onto the busy avenue from a private driveway.
Witness Veronica Rodriguez said the woman in the Chevy had been leaving the driveway of a trailer park. “(She) was driving out of the trailer park and the truck was coming through and I guess she tried to beat the truck,” said Rodriguez. “That’s when the truck hit the car and I just saw it spinning.”
Police have not identified any of the people involved in the crash. Traffic investigators are trying to determine exactly what happened.
