Large Fire Reported In Downtown El Paso

El Paso firefighters have responded to a large apartment building threatened by a fire in downtown El Paso.

Twenty-four firefighters battled the blaze, which was initially reported as two cars on fire. Many apartments filled with smoke, which came in through open windows, but it appeared the apartment suffered little if any damage from the fire.

El Paso Fire Department spokesman Lt. John Concha said that shortly after 12:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of South South Mesa St. Street. Residents evacuated their homes, but no injuries were immediately reported.

Concha could not immediately provide a damage estimate or cause of the vehicle fire.
