New Information: Officers Responded To Piedra Home Twice Before Shooting

ABC-7 has uncovered new information on the incident that led to an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting happened on June 25 in the lower valley. Hector Piedra, 41, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer, evading arrest and assault-family violence.

According to a complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7, a police officer was called to the Piedra home at 3 a.m. regarding a family fight. The officer ended up driving Piedra to a friend’s house to separate him from his wife. But about an hour later, police were called back to the home.

The affidavit continues with Piedra’s wife saying Hector began kicking the door, hitting it so fiercely that it broke in, hitting his wife on the back of the head. The boyfriend of the couple’s daughter called 911 once they began to fight.

As ABC-7 reported the day of the incident, Piedra drove off before police arrived, but returned when they were in the midst of their investigation. Police say he slammed his vehicle into a patrol car, then pointed a handgun at the officers. Officers then opened fire on Piedra, shooting him in the leg and abdomen. Piedra was booked into the county jail upon his release from the hospital on July 4 with a bail set at $66,000.
