Woman Accused Of Child Abuse Is Sought

Doa Ana County sheriff?s deputies are are looking for a woman whose child allegedly tested positive for illicit drugs.

Kyrie E. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped July 1 on Ray Luchini Drive at West Picacho Avenue in Las Cruces. Several people were arrested, including Smith, who was suspected of supplying alcohol to a minor. She was arrested on three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Details on the other arrests were we not released because the investigation is still ongoing, said Capt. Michael Kinney, a spokesman for the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Kinney, toxicology tests showed that Smith and her child tested positive for several different types of illicit drugs, which prompted Judge Kent Wingenroth on Tuesday to issue a warrant for the arrest of Smith for negligent child abuse.

Smith is 5 feet 6 inches tall, approximately 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
