UTEP’s Natalicio To Attend White House Summit on Hispanic Issues
UTEP President Diana Natalicio will discuss issues affecting Hispanics during a White House summit that continues today in Washington.
Natalicio has been working with national Hispanic leaders to finds ways to meet the needs of the Hispanic community during the first Hispanic public policy summit, “Winning the Future: President Obama’s Agenda and the Hispanic Community.”
According to a news release issued by the University of Texas at El Paso, Natalicio was among key leaders chosen to participate in the interactive, informal conversations about Hispanic issues with senior Obama administration officials from a wide range of agencies and the White House office.
White House officials organized the two-day conference to interact with key decision- and policymakers from a range of policy areas by sharing concerns, constructive criticism, feedback and success stories, and finding ways to collaborate in addressing the needs of the Latino community.
Among the topics Natalicio will discuss are education, jobs, economic recovery and immigration reform.
In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama said that the most important contest we face today is with competitors across the globe for the jobs and industries, said Stephanie Valencia Ramirez, associate director for the White House’s Office of Public Engagement.
“To win that contest and secure prosperity for Hispanics and all Americans, we have to out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world,” Ramirez said in an email to UTEP. “The Hispanic community plays an integral part of that plan to win the future.”
