Horse Abandoned In San Elizario Dies

Jerry the horse has died.

Jerry, who was left to starve to death in San Elizario, was found Tuesday — alone — in a field on the 13-hundred block of Janelle Lynne.

Jerry was then taken to a ranch in El Paso’s Upper Valley where he died Wednesday afternoon, said Angie Sommers, Precinct 7 constable.

Sommers said she stayed up all night with the horse and got very little sleep. She gathered people to pick up and move Jerry to an animal hospital when his heart stopped.

“Actually a lot of people thought we should euthanize him,” Sommers said Tuesday. “It’s going to be a long, expensive road.”

Authorities are looking for a man they say was seen removing a horse from a white trailer attached to a blue pickup then driving off on July 6.

If you have any information on who is responsible for abandoning Jerry, call Sommers at 525-5807.
