Doa Ana County’s Website Named One Of Country’s Best

The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties have listed Doa Ana County’s website as one of the top 10 in the country for a sixth consecutive year, according to a news release.

The website has earned national recognition for counties with populations less than 250,000, ranking eighth this year, down from third in 2010. The website ranked second in 2009, fourth in 2008, eighth in 2007 and ninth in 2006.

The Doa Ana County Public Information Office and the Doa Ana County Information Technology Department in March of 2005 overhauled the website, which is updated on a near-daily basis and is in the preliminary stages of a complete overhaul expected to be completed in 2012, the release said.

Doa Ana County will be honored at an awards ceremony this week in Portland, Ore.

The rankings are determined by a survey that asks county officials about online service delivery, infrastructure, architecture and governance models.

“Our website is constantly being improved due to teamwork and innovative ideas between the technicians and department heads and users,” Doa Ana County Manager Brian D. Haines said. “I’m proud of the ongoing collaboration between the Information Technology Department and the Public Information Office that led to this prestigious award, and I am confident the website will continue to improve over time to meet this dynamic county’s many unique challenges.”

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.

The National Association of Counties provides legislative, research, technical and public affairs assistance to county governments. The NACo, which was created in in 1935, acts a voice for the nation’s 3,066 counties in Washington D.C.
