Las Cruces Mother, Newborn Missing
Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 29 -year-old woman and her infant son who may be in danger.
In a news release, police said they are looking for Rene Marie Garcia and her 14-day-old son.
Police said they have reason to believe the woman’s son may be in danger but would not elaborate.
Investigators describe Garcia as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Garcia was last seen at about 5 a.m. Friday near the 300 block of Montana Avenue, according to police.
Investigators believe Garcia may be on foot.
Please said Garcia lived at a residence on Bushland Avenue on the city’s East Mesa, but had been staying at the Sands Motel on South Main Street in Las Cruces.
One of the motel managers said that Garcia arrived Thursday afternoon with her child and a man.
Investigators said the man was later arrested following a party in the motel room.
The manager said police came back to the motel looking for Garcia, but the door to her room was locked from the inside and the door was damaged.
He said all of Garcia’s belongings were there and a back window was open.
Las Cruces police investigators said, at this point, Garcia is not in any trouble.
“Right now, we’re just trying find out where they are. We’re trying to talk to (Garcia),” spokesman Dan Trujillo said.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Garcia is asked to call 911.
