60-Year-Old Man Accused Of Raping Young Girl
Police are looking for a 60-year-old Las Cruces man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl and threatening to call immigration authorities if she reported him.
Javier Mendez, 60, has has two warrants out for his arrest. He’s wanted on three counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child, one count of intimidation of a witness and one count of stalking.
Mendez is believed to be in the Las Cruces area, or in El Paso, where he has family, police said.
Las Cruces Police detectives said that Mendez raped the girl for the first time in July 2010 and continued to do so until April of this year. Police said Mendez knows the girl’s mother and assaulted the teen in her home when her mother was at work.
Mendez also threatened to report the girl’s mother to immigration officials if the teen reported the abuse, police said.
According to investigators, Mendez has continuously followed the girl to and from school, and threatened to harm her friends.
