EPPD: Woman Intentionally Drove Off Embankment

El Paso police say a woman intentionally drove off the side of an embankment on Rim Road in central El Paso, plunging 60 feet.

The crash happened on the 800 block of Rim Road around one Tuesday afternoon. El Paso police were sent out to what was believed to be a traffic collision. Police said a woman driving a Chevy Cavalier drove off the side of the road.

Police have not said what led them to believe the woman, who they say is in her 20s, meant to crash.

She is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, a spokesman told ABC-7. Crews also found a car seat in the vehicle. Paramedics and police spent some time looking around the scene of the crash to see if a child had been ejected during the wreck. They found no one.

Fire Department Spokesman John Concha said, “We saw a car seat in a vehicle, we did a secondary search to make sure there was no passengers or any other victims in this vehicle.”

After a thorough search, Police Spokesman Darrel Petry agreed, “They are very confident that this was the only individual that was in the vehicle at the time that it drove down the cliff.”

Police said that the woman is expected to recover and will be provided both mental health and physical treatment.
