Kimaiyo Garners C-USA Scholar Athlete Award
EL PASO ? UTEP?S Risper Kimaiyo has been selected the Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year for women?s cross country chosen by the league?s Faculty Athletics Representatives.
?Our program is very proud of Risper receiving this award,? head coach Paul Ereng said. ?She is just one of those few athletes whom every program would want to have.?
The C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service.
Kimaiyo is a Nursing major and carries a 3.68 cumulative GPA. She was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team following the cross country season and earned recognition on the President’s Dean List last fall.
The 2010 Conference USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year finished fourth at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships for her second USTFCCCA cross country All-American status. Kimaiyo made school history becoming the first female to win a regional meet and be named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Athlete of the Year. The sophomore also won her second consecutive league crown at the 2010 C-USA Cross Country Championships.
