Sheriff: ‘Human-Tracking’ Dog Helps Find Would-Be Car Burglars

El Paso Sheriff’s officials say a human-tracking dog helped nab a trio of would-be car burglars earlier this week.

According to investigators, deputies were dispatched to an auto auction business in the 111000 block of Gateway East around 9:45 Wednesday.

Deputies said an on-duty security guard witnessed three young men enter the fenced property and attempt to burglarize several vehicles.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies were able to find two of the suspects hiding between vehicles.

According to investigators, a sheriff?s office search and rescue canine handler deployed their human tracking K-9 onto the property. They said the dog was able to find the third suspect hiding under a car.

Officials said Manuel Aguirre, 21, was taken into custody along with two juveniles, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, both from Socorro.

All three were charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Sheriff’s officials said assisting agencies included Horizon City Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Clint Station units, Courthouse Security and Special Operation Deputies who were in the area.
