Deadly Rollover In Las Cruces Ruled A Homicide

Las Cruces police said a fatal rollover Saturday evening is being investigated as a homicide.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Las Cruces police were called to a rollover crash near May Avenue and Martinez Street. When officers arrived, the driver, 31-year-old Roy Daniel Santos, was found dead inside the vehicle.

Investigators have determined that Santos received a gunshot wound prior to the crash. His body was taken to the New Mexico medical investigator’s office, where it was determined that he died as a result of the gunshot wound.

Officers learned that the vehicle was traveling the wrong way on a part of May near Solano Drive that is designated as a one-way.

The victim’s vehicle struck a parked car near Martinez Street before rolling over and crashing through a fence. No other injuries were reported.

Police also received reports of gunshots in the area shortly before the crash.

Detectives continue investigate and are asking for anyone with information to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477).

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person, or persons, responsible for Santos’ death.
