UPDATE: Authorities ID Woman Found Dead, Son Held In Shooting

Authorities arrested the son of a woman found shot to death at arout midnight Monday near Horizon City.

El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Cactus Wren for a welfare check on 43-year-old Hilda Gonzalez after deputies received information that there may have been someone shot at her home.

When they got there, deputies discovered Gonzalez’s body. Shortly after Gonzalez’s 23-year-old son Leo Martinez was arrested on suspicion of Murder. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $600,000.

ABC-7 spoke with the victim’s next door neighbor. Fernando Arias said Gonzalez was a very friendly lady.

“She was studying in beauty school,” said Arias. “(Gonzalez) was my mother’s best friend. “

He said Gonzalez lived at the home with her family. He said he remembers seeing Gonzalez live with two boys and her husband.

Sheriff’s deputies have not said how or why they believe Martinez killed his own mother.

Arias said he can not fathom what would lead a son to do something like that. “It’s so sad,” he said. “God bless her family.”
