Dentist To Offer Free Emergency Dental Work

In tough economic times, people who are strapped for cash often forgo expenditures that aren’t deemed urgent — things like car maintenance or annual physicals.

One El Paso dentist tells ABC-7 she realizes that people will put off going to the dentist for the same reason, even though dental health is important for overall health.

“Dental disease is an infectious disease. And it communicates through our entire system,” said Dr. Mehrnoosh Darj. “And it’s very important for people to be aware and treat dental disease.”

That’s one reason why Darj is offering free emergency dental work at all three of her offices in El Paso and Socorro. It’s in honor of Dental Health Month, which is in February.

Darj said she’s only held one other free clinic, which was at the end of 2007. She said 100 people showed up. This time around, clients will get an oral evaluation and either a cleaning, a filling or a tooth extraction.

“There are a lot of people in our community that need help that may not be able to get it,” Darj said. “We surveyed our patients and our families, and this is what they asked for. This is for the community.”
