Fire crews respond to Downtown El Paso

Approximately nine units and 26 firefighters responded to a building fire at 408 South El Paso Street. Crews were dispatched at approximately 9:26 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were seen coming from the first floor of the building.

Fire crews contained the fire to the first floor of the two-story building where the business, Bella Boutique was located. The business is being considered a total loss. The second floor and basement sustained moderate smoke damage and were not occupied. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was electrical and caused by faulty wiring. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no firefighter injuries were reported. Light smoke damage was also reported inside Holland’s Department Store, which is located at 402 South El Paso Street.

South El Paso Street is now open with only a portion of the sidewalk closed at this time.
