Man gets stabbed trying to borrow car keys

A Lower Valley man is recovering and another man is behind bars after a request for keys turns into a stabbing.

El Paso police officers found 36-year-old Jaime Contreras collapsed and bleeding after responding to a call on the 8100 block of Valley View.

Contreras was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers say Contreras had been knocking on 45-year-old Octavio Llamas’s door and window to ask for a key to a recreational vehicle and in the process damaged the window.

Llamas armed himself with a kitchen knife and came outside where he stabbed Contreras in the left rib area.

Llamas was arrested and is now facing one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Llamas is being held on a $1,000 bond.
