Who’s in at QB?
THE QUARTERBACK PLAY FOR THE UTEP MINERS THIS YEAR IT IS FAIR TO SAY HAS BEEN DISAPPOINTING.
STARTING QB NICK LAMAISON HAS HAD HIS UPS AND HIS DOWNS.
BACKUP CARSON MEGER HAS HAD CHANCES TO SHINE, BUT HAS FAILED TO TAKE OFF WITH THE OPPORTUNITY.
BUT RECENTLY, THIRD-STRING QB BLAIR SULLIVAN IS ALL THE RAGE AFTER HIS TWO-TOUCHDOWN PERFORMANCE AT HOUSTON.
“(BLAIR) THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS, HE’S BEEN TELLING EVERYBODY WHAT TO DO. HE’S GOT THE CLIPBOARD, THE BASEBALL HAT ON, HE‘S LOVED BY EVERYBODY. THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN, YOU GET INTO A GAME AND THINGS CHANGE. IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW HE DOES IN A GAME,” UTEP MINERS COACH MIKE PRICE SAID.
WHEN UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA COMES TO TOWN, BLAKE BORTLES WILL BE THE KNIGHTS‘ STARTING QUARTERBACK.
BUT, WHO WILL BE THE MINERS STARTING QUARTERBACK? NICK LAMAISON, CARSON MEGER, OR BLAIR SULLIVAN?
ON THE YEAR LAMAISON HAS THROWN 10 TD PASSES TO GO ALONG WITH NINE INTERCEPTIONS IN NINE GAMES.
MEGER HAS THROWN ONE TOUCHDOWN PASS WITH THREE PICKS IN EIGHT GAMES PLAYED, AND LAST SATURDAY , IN ONLY HIS SECOND TIME SEEING THE FIELD, BLAIR SULLIVAN WAS 6 OF 10 AND NEARLY BROUGHT THE MINERS BACK FROM A 38POINT SECOND–HALF DEFICIT.
“I’VE NEVER HAD A THREE–HEADED QUARTERBACK SYSTEM IN ANY OFFENSE I’VE EVER RUN,” PRICE SAID. PRICE WON’T ANNOUNCE WHO WILL START UNTIL SATURDAY , BUT IT DOES SEEM UNLIKELY ALL THREE WILL SEE THE FIELD. THE MINERS NEED ONE OF THESE THREE TO STEP UP AND EXCEL, AND PERHAPS SATURDAY , WE’LL FINALLY SEE WHO WANTS TO TAKE THE STARTING QUARTERBACK JOB AND RUN WITH IT.
