Carrasco, O’Rourke debate tonight

Democrat Beto O’Rourke and Republican Barbara Carrasco face off in a debate Thursday evening.

The candidates are looking to replace Rep. Silvestre Reyes, who lost to O’Rourke in the Democratic primary for the House of Representatives District 16 seat in May.

The questions will come from students at Coronado High School, which is where the debate will be held.

“We are not apathetic and are able to organize these political events and impact the political process, just as easily as any adult,” said Jasleen Shokar, one of the student organizers. “It takes a lot of time and effort, but pays off wonderfully in the end.”

Student organizers asked for their classmates, as well as the community at large, to submit questions. The topics will range from education to immigration and the economy to national security.

The debate is free and open to the public. It will be held in Coronado’s auditorium and begins at 7 p.m.

ABC-7 is broadcasting the debate live on its StormTrack Weather 24/7 channel and streaming it on kvia.com.
