Southwestern International Rodeo pays tribute to Jimmy Bowen

El Pasosaid goodbye to one ofit’s best known cowboys this week.

“His legacy is going to live a long long time around here,” said David Carson, Southwest International board member.

West Texas rancher Jimmy Bowen died this week, leaving behind not only an 80,000 acre empire, but also a memory not soon to be forgotten. As one lengendary cattleman rides off into the sunset, a new group of cowboys are ready to saddle up.

“He loved the kids and he actually allows the rodeo groups to participate at the ranch because here in this area the county, and the city does not have a facility for people who are involved in rodeo sports”, said Carson

At the rodeo, ropers and riders call it a way of life, a cowboy heritage they’re proud to celebrate.

“For the kidsI hope that some of the traditional ways get passed on to them,” said Carson.
