El Paso Police identify man killed in crash on Saturday

The El Paso Police Department has identified the man 35-year-old man killed in a single vehicle crash just before 9 p.m. Saturday in Northeast El Paso.

Kristoffer Reginald Duke, the sole occupant of a 1997 BMW on U.S. 54 South by Hondo Pass, died at the scene.

According to police, witnesses said that Duke had been driving erratically and at a high rate of speed. Police said that Duke switched to the left shoulder in an attempt to pass a vehicle. Upon doing this, he lost control of the car and went across all lanes of traffic from east to west.

The vehicle then left the roadway striking the curb, a cement overflow drainage ditch and then began to overturn. Duke was ejected as a result of the crash and the vehicle caught fire. The preliminary investigation suggests that speed is a factor in the crash.

It is unknown at this time if any other factors may be involved. Duke is the sixth person killed on El Paso roads this year.
