Speed blamed for deadly wreck near Horizon

A man is dead after the truck he was riding in slammed into the back of a semi-truck near Horizon.

The incident happened just after 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Horizon and Gateway East. The victim has been identified as Paul Wayne Tims, who was 61. Emergency crews say that speed was to blame for the wreck. Investigators say Tims was found in the back seat of a Chevy truck that had slammed into the rear of the semi. Officials went on to say that Tims was killed instantly during the collision.

Investigators say there were no brake marks on the street, meaning the driver never slowed down. The impact was so powerful that the rear axle of the semi was broken during the collision. Investigators say that alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time.
