U.S. Marshals, FBI, El Paso Police on scene of fatal West El Paso shooting

U.S. Marshals, FBIand El Paso Police spent several hours at the scene of a law enforcement-involved shooting in West El Paso.

It occurred in the 100 block of Resler Wednesday afternoon. FBI spokesman, Mike Martinez confirmed one man was killed, but did not release his name.

ABC-7 spoke with a woman who said she was his wife and witnessed the entire incident. Crystal Olivas said she was getting inside a vehicle with her husband Juan Olivas and their youngdaughter.

“Some men approached him and started shooting at him. I was getting in the car and they just started shooting at him. They wouldn’t tell us who they were, my husband was scared and he was already hurt. They abandoned him and just left him there,” said Olivas.

Olivas said her husband was still alive but authorities failed to get him medical attention.

FBI spokesman, Mike Martinez said the investigation is connected to two warrants that were issued in Las Cruces. Martinez couldn’t confirm if the warrants were issued for the man shot dead.

One neighbor told ABC-7, “He got in a fight with the officers and they took him down.”

When asked if her husband was in trouble with the law, Olivas said he had a warrant for failure to appear in court, but she did not elaborate.

“Apparently he’s always been a danger to society and he’s a danger to everybody,” Olivas said.

Olivas also said he had been living out of the state and had recently returned to visit her. She said they were visiting family at the apartment complex, but that was not confrimed by authorities.

After the shooting, Olivas said she was taken by FBI agents to the El Paso Police Westside Regional Command where she was questioned.
