Bishop Mark J. Seitz installed as Catholic Diocese of El Paso’s new bishop
El Paso Catholics gathered Tuesday night to officially welcome their new bishop.
Thousands showed up to the convention center Downtown for Bishop Mark J. Seitz’s installation Mass, some even driving in from as far away as Pecos.
Seitz replaces Bishop Armando X. Ochoa, who is now the bishop of the Diocese of Fresno, Calif. Ochoa was El Paso’s bishop since 1996.
Pope Francis chose Seitz to be the bishop in May.
The archbishop of San Antonio, Gustavo Garcia-Siller, officiated Tuesday night’s Mass. A man ABC-7 spoke with at the installation said he has high hopes for Seitz, especially when it comes to the priesthood.
“I’ll be entering the seminary this fall hopefully, we’ll see more and more young men truly, truly trying to take that step towards their faith and becoming a priest,” said Nick Foggia, en El Paso resident.
