Cyclist hit by off-duty Border Patrol agent, killed

An El Paso physical therapist riding his bicycle on a New Mexico highway died after being struck by an off-duty Border Patrol agent Saturday morning.

Floyd Trey Hancock, 47, was riding on New Mexico 136 — the Pete Domenici Highway — about 7:40 a.m. when was struck by 29-year-old Anthony J. Aragon, of El Paso.

Hancock was taken by ambulance to Sierra Providence Hospital and was pronounced dead just before 1 p.m.

Aragon told New Mexico State Police that Hancock swerved into his path when Aragon tried to pass him. Aragon stopped, performed CPR and dialed 911. According to a statement issued by the New Mexico State Police, Arago was neither texting nor talking on his cell phone at the time of the collision.
