Festival takes over Downtown El Paso
Thousands of people will pack Santa Fe Street and the Arts Plaza this weekend for the 12th Annual El Paso Downtown Street Festival.
The two-day festival features four stages of live music, food, a car showand a fireworks display.
On Friday night, 1990’s rock band’Bush,’led by frontman Gavin Rossdale will take the main stage.
‘Third Eye Blind’ is the headliner scheduled for Saturday night.
The weekend’s festivities does mean Santa Fe St. will be shut down just south of Interstate 10 to San Antonio Street. Detour signs are in place to guide drivers going to downtown this weekend.
About 30,000 people are expected this weekend.
Organizers said several parking garages will be open for those attending. They include the Mills parking garage, the Convention Center and Sun Metro garages.
In recent years, the festival has been scheduled so it no longer falls on the 4th of July Weekend.
“We actually find that it works better not competing with people’s 4th of July scheduled activities. We moved it up a weekend about two or three years ago and have enjoyed great success in doing so,” said Bryan Crowe, assistant general manager of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Crowe said people attending can also look forward to affordable prices.
“We’re really particularly excited this year that our ticket prices are much lower than other festivals in the downtown area. We encourage El Pasoans to come down and take advantage,” said Crowe.
Ticket for adultsat the door are $30 and$5 for children 12 and under.
