Only On ABC-7: Friends, family remember woman shot and killed in Las Cruces

It was an emotional memorial in Las Cruces.

Friends and family of Lisa Cash gathered in front of her home to share memories Friday.

Police said Richard McIntyre shot and killed Cash, who was his sister-in-law, before killing himself.

Cash left behind a family and many in Las Cruces who loved her.

Cash’s friends, family and former students gathered in front of her house for an emotional afternoon.

Cash was a kindergarten teacher at Fairacres Elementary School.

“She made us all feel good about ourselves and she will be missed a lot,” said Hunter Butt, a former student of Cash’s. “She always had a smile on her face. You never could replace that smile. Every time you saw her and you were having a bad day. She’d turn it upside down and make it completely better.”

A trail of flowers led up to Cash’s home. Loved ones lined up to leave flowers and pictures in a makeshift memorial.

Cash’s husband was overwhelmed by the support.

The crowd shared memories of her strength, her spirit and her love for her students

“I asked her one day, ‘Mrs. Cash, when are you going to have a baby?’ and she said, ‘I’m not going to have a baby. You all are my children.'”

Cash’s family is asking for help with expenses and creating an anti-violence foundation in her name. You can donate to the Lisa Cash Memorial at First Light Federal Credit Union.
