Pacific Coast League realigns; see which teams will be in El Paso’s division
The Dodgers are the most exciting team in baseball and they have thousands of fans in El Paso, like Cesar Lopez.
“There’s a wide variety (of fans in El Paso), Rangers fans, lots of Dodgers, Yankees fans … but for the most part, there are a lot of Dodger fans in El Paso,” Lopez said.
El Paso’s still yet-to-be named team, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, has been placed in the realigned PCLl Pacific Southern Division, along with Albuquerque, the Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers, Salt Lake, an affiliate of the Angels, and Las Vegas, affiliate of the Mets.
“I think there’s a lot of neat things that can be done between the Padres and Dodgers affiliates and between two towns that are almost three and a half hours apart,” said El Paso Triple-A general manager Brad Taylor.
Taylor thinks having Albuquerque in the same division, meaning eight home games against the Dodgers affiliate instead of just four, will only add to the expected success.
“I think El Paso has a chance to be one of the most successful markets for Major League Baseball, I really believe that,” Taylor said.
Ballpark construction is really picking up and this weekend they’re expected to pour thousands of cubic yards of concrete for the concourse. It has to be done at midnight, according to contractors, because it will dehydrate too quickly otherwise, because of the heat.
