Texas Tech reportedly interested in NMSU coach Marvin Menzies

Several sources have confirmed to ABC-7 that Texas Tech has expressed an interest in New Mexico State University’s Marvin Menzies.

That interest includes Menzies being on the Texas Tech campus today. ABC-7 has reached out to both universities for confirmation.

NMSU’s Athletic Director McKinley Boston told ABC-7 he has not given permission to Texas Tech to speak to Menzies.

ABC-7 has learned that permission is not a requirement. Texas Tech has not denied their interest in Menzies.

Menzies, who has taken NMSU to the NCAA basketball tournament four times during his six-year tenure, was eliminated from the tourament this past Thursday when St. Louis University defeated the Aggies in the opening round.

Menzies has guided the Aggies to three WAC Tournament Championships in four years.

Billy Gillispie resigned as Texas Tech’s basketball coach before the start of the 2012-’13 season. Gillispie was previously head coach at UTEP, Texas A&M, and Kentucky before taking the job at Texas Tech.
