Hiker rescued from Franklin Mountains early Monday morning

A 57 year old woman had to be rescued overnight after getting lost in the Franklin Mountains on Sunday.

The incident began as a simple hike on the Mammoth’s Tusk trail in the Franklin Mountains. But things went wrong when the woman says she became disoriented and couldn’t find her way back. She says her husband has already turned back before reaching the peak and her phone only had partial battery.

She called 911 when it was getting dark and cold, and did her best to guide rescuers to her location. She eventually made it down just after 2:15 a.m. Monday morning. Her journey, which began at Transmountain Road, ended in West El Paso on Thunderbird Drive. Her husband was present with rescuers when she finally made it out of the desert.
