Two White Sands Missile Range soldiers die in Afghanistan

The White Sands Missile Range community is mourning the loss of two soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan Friday.

Spc. Kenneth Clifford Alvarez, 23, of Santa Barbara, California, and 20-year-old private Jonathon Michael Dean Hostetter, of Humphreys, Missouri, were wounded and died after their unit was attacked with an improvised bomb, according to a statement from the Department of Defense.

The attack happened in Haft Asiab, Afghanistan.

The soldiers were part of the 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade stationed out of White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

Memorial services are pending.
