Update: Police arrest driver allegedly involved in hit-and-run of 9-year-old girl

Oct. 22 Update: El Paso Police investigators from the Special Traffic Investigations Unit have identified 33-year-old Michael Pinedo as the driver of the pickup truck that struck a 9-year old female bicyclist Sunday evening.

Police say that at the time of the collision Pinedo stopped the truck and checked on the girl before he allegedly fled the scene. The vehicle was located Tuesday in the 4600 block of Tropicana by police. Monday evening Pinedo was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the offense of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury. His bond was set at $10,000.

Oct. 21 Afternoon Update: El Paso Police have found the pickup truck involved in an alleged hit-and-run of a 9-year-old girl Sunday afternoon.

Police say the truck was found in Northeast El Paso but an arrest has not been made.

Previous story: El Paso Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of a pickup truck that struck a 9-year-old girl in Northeast El Paso Sunday afternoon.

Police say that at 5:44 p.m. Sunday the girl was riding her bike east on DeBeers when she attempted to cross 10300 Kellogg and was struck by a Dodge pickup truck. Police say the driver stopped for a moment after the collision and then fled the scene.

The girl was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Her name and condition were not released by police.

Police say the pickup truck was missing its front grill, has headlight damage, and may possibly be red in color.

Police Special Traffic Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vehicle that fled the scene, its whereabouts, and the identity of the driver to call the El Paso Police Department at (915) 832-4400.
