El Paso Chamber of Commerce supports hotel occupancy tax increase for ballpark

The Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce’s leadership has approved a resolution in support of the proposed Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT tax) proposition that is on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The HOT tax would be raided by 2 percent if passed by voters.

“The resolution in support of the proposed Hotel Occupancy Tax to fund the downtown stadium factually outlines the important history of the issue, highlighting milestones such as the presentation of the 2015 Downtown Plan that was presented in 2006, and the adoption of the Plan El Paso comprehensive plan that was approved in March 2012,” according to a chamber statement.

Several chamber and community leaders will travel to Oklahoma City next week to visit a city that has faced similar challenges and opportunities to El Paso and to learn more about what the city did to successfully fund various economic development initiatives to improve the city’s quality of life and dramatically transform its downtown, according to the chamber’s statement.

In May, the chamber took a position in support of the quality of life bond initiative.
