El Paso business leaders, City employees visit Oklahoma City to see how city has changed

The Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, El Paso leaders, and City employees are in the middle of a visit to Oklahoma City to see how sports and sports stadiums have changed the city.

Read tweets by the chamber below in order of when they were tweeted. They arrived Thursday and are set to end their trip Saturday.

We arrived in OKC @ 12:30. We are at Red Hawks Ballpark listening to former Mayor Kirk Humphreys
He is speaking about the MAPS Programs and the keys to their successful efforts. Strong political leadership with support from business.
He is showing us the one mile canal they built and the growth and development that ensued including the completely redesigned civic center
City leaders were told that the first MAPS $373 million would generate $200 million in private investment. To date that number is $4 billion
Last statement: the MAPS program didn’t succeed because of the energy industry. The energy industry prospered here because of the quality
Of life that kept the young talent home instead of moving to Dallas. Sound familiar?
When this began there was one hotel downtown with 300 rooms. Today there are 12 hotels in Brick Town alone.

We have another early start with a tour of OU Research Campus, Children’s Hospital and Medical Center led by Dr Joseph Ferretti, OU Provost
At the OKC Children’s Hospital – very impressive! http://fb.me/1VZFQOWXc
We are now receiving a formal presentation on the entire health campus and research park of 30 city blocks. pic.twitter.com/aTnntXgu
Presentation by current city leadership led by Mayor Mick Cornett, the city planning director and the director of economic
Development Alliance. Very important message echoed by everyone in leadership.
Our civic, community and elected leadership MUST be unified. It does not help for council members to offer luke warm, conditional support.
It must be unequivocal and bold. It is time for our leadership to LEAD.
Absence of partisan politics and an entrepreneurial government sector. That means our elected leaders need to lead and the private sector will follow.
We are in Chesapeake Arena getting a tour of the home of the Thunder. Amazing and inspiring. http://t.co/mEt7CNt0
