Fabens High freshmen duel seniors at homecoming parade
Fabens High freshman were pummeled with paint balls and eggs while constructing their float for Thursday’s homecoming parade. The freshmen say they’re a little bruised, and their float, a little dirty, but they’re not going to let the seniors’ prank get them down.
Students say ruining each others floats is a Fabens tradition, but paint balls hurt. With paint and egg yolk covering everything, Fabens seniors made a mess of the freshmen float. But when it came time for the parade, the freshmen got the last laugh.
At Fabens High superhero-themed homecoming, it was the Hulk versus Batman.
“We’re going to do awesome because we’re freshmen!” said freshmen Ashley Jimenez.
About 15 freshmen pulled their pennies together and created a green machine to carry them to homecoming glory, but their dreams wouldn’t last for long.
“Paintballs hurt, but I wasn’t aiming for them.,” said senior Jesus Castro. “They got in the way.”
Batman had pummeled the Hulk.
“It happens every year but never with paint balls,” Jimenez said. “I have really big bruises and scratches all over.”
And while the sophomores, juniors and seniors had floats they’d been working on for weeks, the freshman had to start from scratch.
“Where’s the tape? you guys! Where’s the tape?” yelled Jimenez.
Torn and taped together, the freshmen had faith in their float.
“We decided to do the Hulk because we’re awesome,” Jimenez said.
And that’s when the unthinkable happened.
“Lets go!! You guys! Chop, chop!” yelled one senior.
The seniors’ Batman-themed float, the one they said was the best, never showed up.
“They’re late. They’re very, very late,” said another senior.
With the crowd waving, Hulk ended up winning and the seniors, waiting.
