Jimmy Bowen, head of Bowen Ranch dies at age 79
The El Paso Times is reporting that Jimmy Bowen, owner of the 88,000 acre Bowen Ranch in Northeast El Paso, died Wednesday night at age 79.

Hereford cattle graze along the mountain slopes while Texas Longhorns roam the flat lands. A historic working cattle ranch, one of few that still exist today.
The old stage stop sits silent now, the centuries old trail used no more; yet the cowboy’s work still goes on. The Bowen Family have ranched since the 1800’s. Jimmy Bowen has seen the high times and the hard times of a west Texas rancher. He is a decorated Korean War Veteran, founder of a successful industrial contracting business, loving husband, father of four and grandfather of ten.
Ranching has always been a great love of his and if you can slow him down for a chat, he will tell you of his younger days of encouraging cattle from Mexico to wander across the Rio Grande into Texas and loves to ‘bend your ear’ with some of El Paso’s fascinating history. Especially about the site on which this steakhouse is located. Some of of which you’ll not find in history books.
The ranch headquarters is approximately 5 miles from the steakhouse is more like a western zoo and playground for children to experience a look back at ‘the olden days.’
