People living next to stadium site toss around opinions on ballpark
People living on Missouri Street could wind up living next to a ballpark..
On Tuesday, El Paso City Councilvoted 4 to 3 in favor of tearing down City Hall and building a downtown ballpark in its place.
Wednesday all of the commotion surrounding the contentious vote made it’s way up Durango Street and around the corner and landed on the steps of the Missouri House.
Agroup of guys who work, live, or have lived at the transitional home gathered on the stoop to weigh the pros and cons of the ambitious development project.
“I support the ballpark in light of the growth that’s taken place in this area,” said Kenny Megliorino, who has been living in and out of Missouri House for about nine years and attended Tuesday’s council meeting to support the stadium. “The ballpark is going to come. It’s a controversial location and that’s the botto that’s t bottom line.”
“I don’t think it should be downtown,” said Charles Smith, whomoved out of Missouri House about a year ago and relocated to an apartment a block away where he watched the city council meeting on TV.
“What’s going to happen to the neighborhood? Are they going to tear it down for the stadium?” asked Smith.
As of Wednesday, Mayor John Cook had not decided whether or not to use his veto power to kill council’s decision to build the ballpark.
If Cook permits the project, Smith said he will not attend baseball games, because he’s a football fan.
