Two early-morning collisions start the weekend
Two accidents occurred early Saturday morning, according to officials.
The first accident occurred just after 2 a.m., police said.
It happened in West El Paso at the intersection of Mesa Street and Kern Drive.
Police said a person was hit by a car. They were transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries, according to officials.
Military police officers were at the scene, but it wasn’t confirmed whether the driver or victim were soldiers.
The second collision involved a 22-year-old man, who is in critical condition after a rollover accident on Transmountain road.
The accident occurred just after 3 a.m., and lead to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Transmountain.
The lanes were reopened around 10 a.m.
According to a release from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation indicates the driver lost control of his car while traveling down the eastbound lane.
The vehicle hit the center concrete barrier and rolled multiple times before sliding into the desert area. It landed upside down.
The male was ejected from his car. He was found roughly 20 feet from his vehicle, officials said.
The driver was transported to a local hospital.
He was the only person in the vehicle.
Special traffic investigators and crime scene technicians were at the scene.
They believe speed may have been a factor, but it is unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt, the release said.
