EPISD hires new interim superintendent
The El Paso Independent School District has a new interim superintendent after a long meeting that went into the early morning.
The school district announced the decision after midnight when the board voted 4-3 to hire Vernon Butler as the new interim superintendent. He has 35 years of experience in education.
Butler will start Oct. 1.
The search for an interim superintendent began after Terri Jordan stepped down earlier in the month, citing family commitments.
Retired EPISD associate superintendent Ken George temporarily took the job. Butler replaces George and will fill in while the district looks for a permanent superintendent.
Butler retired as principal at Bel Air High, served as an interim superintendent at the Ysleta Independent School District, and also as superintendent at the Anthony ISD.
The Board has already begun the process of hiring a superintendent search firm, and expects to have a new superintendent in place by March 2013. Trustees on Tuesday also approved a 19-member Ad-Hoc Committee comprised of representatives from organizations throughout the community to review responses to the Superintendent Search Consulting Service proposals.
